You didn’t have to be a close friend, you didn’t have to know him well, but even to have a passing acquaintance with Doug Donovan was to know that he was one of life’s truly good and decent people, a consummate travel professional and a genuinely “nice guy” in the best possible interpretation of what that means.
The industry was shocked and saddened last week to learn of Doug’s death after what his family described as, “a brief but courageous battle with cancer.”
As senior director of product development, Doug was, for many years, a valued member at Sunwing Travel Group. Before that he held positions at Air Canada Vacations, Chieftain Shamrock and Sunflight Holidays.
Those fortunate enough to have known him, or to have had the pleasure of working with him, universally agree that Doug was a pleasure to be around. He always had a smile, a pleasant word and truly enjoyed being part of the travel industry. He worked hard and was ready and willing to offer advice and help when and where needed.
Sunwing Chairman Colin Hunter, said, “I have known Doug for over 40 years and he was an engaging soft spoken gentleman at all times. He will be missed by his fellow workers and overseas suppliers.”
He was a positive influence and an example to us all of the best travel has to offer. Our condolences, along with all those in the industry he loved, go to Doug’s wife Margaret, his sons Jeffrey and Michael, and to all his family, friends and colleagues.
Doug Donovan will be remembered and missed.
