The top infectious disease expert in the US, Dr. Anthony Fauci says it is possible a mandatory Covid vaccination will be required for travel overseas, and possibly even some domestic journeys.
It won’t be a federal mandate but there is a “possibility of introducing Covid-19 vaccine passports” Fauci said during an interview with Newsweek.
“I’m not sure it is going to be mandatory from a central government standpoint, like federal government mandates but there are going to be individual institutions that I’m sure are going to mandate it,” he said.
“For example, influenza and Hepatitis B vaccines are mandated at many hospitals. Anything is on the table. Anything is possible, of course.
“Some school districts around the country will likely make vaccination mandatory.
“I would not be surprised, as we get into the full scope of vaccination, that some companies, some organizations might require vaccination.”
These are all things that will be discussed he said under the Biden administration.
Fauci expects some countries will require Covid vaccinations before fully reopening their borders.
If so this could lead to the mass usage of so-called ‘Immunity passports.’
Several companies are trailing these such as IATA’s Travel Pass although at present they only contain details of pre-departure Covid tests.
