NEWS

Canadian visitations to the U.S. have bottomed out (at 16 million visitors in 2025) and are set to rise for the next five years, according to the latest U.S. Travel Forecast. Newly released by the U.S. Travel Association, the report says the turnaround has already started (2026), but it won’t be until 2030 until visitations surpass the heady pre-pandemic numbers of 2019 when 20.7 million Canadians crossed border. The forecast is for 17 million visitors this year, followed by 18.2 million in 2027, 19.1 in 2028, 20.1 million in 2029, and 21.0 million 2030, finally surpassing 2019.

Air Canada is cutting the number of flights to the U.S. this summer as the war in Iran creates jet fuel shortages that have sent prices soaring. Toronto to Sacramento, Calif., will cease Aug. 1, and service to Charleston, S.C., will end Sept. 6, while flights from Vancouver to Raleigh, N.C., will be halted beginning July 29, and service from Montreal to Austin, Texas, will be suspended Sept. 7. All flights will resume as normal next summer, the airline added.

Another carrier, Air India, has slashed its flight schedule due to soaring jet fuel prices, leaving Canadian residents hoping to visit the subcontinent with fewer options and higher fares. The airline has cut flight volumes for April and May, with plans for more schedule trims in June and July.

Flight attendants for United Airlines approved a new labour contract that will bring their first pay increases in six years – along with boarding pay, a long-sought change that compensates crew members for the work they do before the plane leaves the gate. The five-year agreement covers nearly 30,000 flight attendants at United. It includes an average 31% pay increase this summer, boarding pay worth an additional 7% to 8% in compensation on average, and $741 million in retroactive pay, according to the Association of Flight Attendants.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air has completed its purchase of Sun Country Airlines, finalizing a deal that combines two low-cost carriers at a turbulent time for the budget airline industry following the recent shutdown of rival Spirit Airlines. Canada delivered a 49% year-over-year increase in March, with 6,711 visitors setting a new monthly record, eclipsing the previous high, set in February 2026.
