RESORTS WORLD ROLLS DICE ON MASSIVE NYC EXPANSION

Resorts World New York City – the city’s only casino-hotel – has made a US$5.5 billion “once in a generation proposal” that would transform the historic 30-hectare Aqueduct racing site in Queens into the single-largest fully integrated resort and entertainment hub in the state with a possible opening date of July, 2026.

Situated in proximity to JFK airport, Resorts World opened in 2011 and is looking to expand into a 520,300 million-sq.-m. resort, allowing for 6,000 slot machines, 800 gaming tables, 2,000 hotel rooms, a 7,000-seat arena, more than 7,000 parking spaces, more than 30 food and beverage outlets, a spa, and more than five hectares acres of community greenspace.

In its presentation to a six-person Community Advisory Committee (CAC), Resorts World Chief Legal and Strategy Officer Kevin Jones  called the proposal “almost risk-free” and said that the construction could start as soon as a license is issued.

Other bidders, including MGM Resorts, Caesars and Roc Nation and a proposed $8 billion development from Mets owner Steve Cohen and Hard Rock, are also being considered, with a decision expected by Sept. 30.

“We’re proud to have grown with the Queens community for nearly 15 years. What the Community Advisory Committee heard today was a vision for a transformative project that will be a game-changer for this borough, the city, and the state,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East.

ReAn average 8 million guests currently pass through RWNYC’s doors annually. In 2021, the 400-room Hyatt Regency JFK Airport hotel at Resorts World New York City opened its doors — bringing the total investment at the site to $1.1 billion.
