ORLANDO TAKES PRIDE IN GAY DAYS

Known for diversity and inclusivity, Orlando has been a pioneer in LGBTQ+ tourism dating back to the original Gay Days in 1991. A winning family travel destination in the 2022 “Gay Travel Awards,” the Florida city promotes inclusivity through events, nightlife, and activities that welcome all and embraces the ethos: “the place where dragons, coasters and Pride flags fly.”

With June Pride Month soon to kick off, here are some of the Pride community’s noteworthy LGBTQ+ events and activities in 2024:

GayDays (May 30 – June 3) – Comprised of multiple events staged at top attractions, gay and lesbian clubs, and other unique venues.

Girls in Wonderland (May 30 – June 3) – The counterpart to GayDays caters to female members of the LGBTQ+ community, featuring parties, special performances, and celebrity appearances.

One Magical Weekend (May 30 – June 3) – Always on the first weekend in June, is one of the largest LGBTQ+ pride and music festivals in the world.

The Pride Cup (May 31– June 2) – An annual LGBTQ+ multi-sport tournament organized by the KindRED Pride Foundation.

Red Shirt Pride Day (June 1) – An annual tradition, RED Shirt Pride Day invites guests to wear a red shirt to Orlando’s theme parks on the first Saturday in June. It’s inspired by the original 30 or 40 people with “kindred spirits” that bravely met at Magic Kingdom Park back in 1991. Their courage that started as a social gathering has grown to become one of the longest running, most iconic events in LGBTQ+ history.

Pulse Remembrance Ceremony (June 12) – This annual event is designed to spread messages of love, unity, acceptance, courage and strength throughout the community. The Pulse Remembrance Ceremony traditionally takes place at the Pulse Interim Memorial, which honors the 49 lives lost on June 12, 2016, and is open throughout the year.

Orlando earned a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index in 2023, which measures the LGBTQ+ inclusiveness of cities’ laws, policies, and services.
