The arrival of Carnival Cruise Lines’ long-awaited mega-ship Mardi Gras has been pushed back yet again due to the global cruise lockdown and delays at the shipyard. And that’s causing a reshuffling of plans to restart the fleet, starting in October.

Carnival announced that Mardi Gras, the first LNG-powered ship to operate in the Western Hemisphere and featuring the first roller coaster at sea, will now enter service from Port Canaveral, Fla. on Feb. 6, 2021. Planned itineraries out of Port Canaveral from Nov. 14, 2020 to Jan. 30, 2021 have been cancelled.

In addition, Carnival Radiance’s $200 million renovation at a shipyard in Spain that was suspended this spring when the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a shutdown is now not likely to be completed until the spring of 2021. That will require shifting Carnival Breeze from Ft. Lauderdale to Port Canaveral to replace Radiance sailings planned from November, 2020 to May, 2021. Carnival Magic sailings will also move from Ft. Lauderdale to PortMiami.
