In the tradition of great charitable relief songs like “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” “We are the World,” and “Tears Are Not Enough,” The Doobie Brothers have recorded a song – “Lahaina” – to help raise funds for recovery in Maui from last year’s devastating wildfires. The band has deep connections to the Hawaiian island, as has Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood (who lost his restaurant on Maui to the fires).
“Lahaina” brings together the Doobies, along with Fleetwood and some celebrated local musicians, with the collaboration aiming to raise funds for The People’s Fund of Maui, a charitable endeavour co-founded by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Doobie’s kickstarted their efforts with their own $100,000 donation.
The song, which intersperses video of the band recording with idyllic pre-wildfire video of Lahaina and the island, was recorded in November, but came to our attention recently thanks to Sue Webb of Vox International.
Donation details are in the video.
