After another summer dominated by headlines of overtourism and heatwaves, Intrepid Travel is unveiling new trips that it says reflect how and when an increasing number of travellers are choosing to visit destinations.
The company has launched 32 new itineraries across 15 countries in Europe, marking one of its largest regional expansions to date. The tours feature alpine hikes, locally led experiences, and cultural journeys through lesser-known cities and the trips invite travellers to explore the continent from a fresh perspective.
Intrepid is also introducing three brand-new destinations: Madeira, the Canary Islands, and the Faroe Islands.
And while Intrepid says bookings to popular destinations like Greece, Spain and Croatia are still seeing considerable year-on-year growth, more travellers are choosing to visit the destinations during shoulder season months, leading Intrepid to expand departure dates throughout the year.
At the same time, demand for alternative summer destinations has surged – up 23% in the Nordics and 52% in the Balkans – with Serbia, the Czech Republic and Albania ranking among Intrepid’s fastest-growing European destinations.
Among the new tours are ‘North Sweden by Rail’ (9 days); ‘Explore Faroe Islands’ (5 days); and
‘Premium Walking and Hiking in Madeira’ (6 days).
“Travellers have long loved Europe, but overtourism and climate change are reshaping where and how people choose to explore,” says Erica Kritikides, General Manager of Experiences at Intrepid Travel. “Iconic sights remain popular, yet more are seeking hidden gems, deeper cultural connections and, at times, cooler conditions.
“Intrepid is committed to creating responsible European travel experiences with our locally based teams that inspire travellers while supporting communities and protecting these remarkable places for the future.”
