Intrepid Travel says it’s turning the page on traditional tourism with the launch of a new collection of experience-led travel books designed to inspire meaningful adventure and connection.
Available from April 15, the Intrepid Guides will be available both online and in major bookstores, with the debut series featuring Japan, Iceland, and Australia.
Each book goes beyond typical sightseeing tips and is designed to “dive deep into the soul of a destination” – from chasing waterfalls in Iceland and sampling sushi in Tokyo’s bustling fish markets to riding Australia’s transcontinental train from Perth to Sydney.
Unlike traditional guidebooks, Intrepid Guides are built around experiences, not just places. Chapters include Nature, Wildlife, Festivals, Food & Drink, History, Slow Travel, and Responsible Travel, providing readers with the tools to “explore consciously and connect deeply.”
“Intrepid Guides are for the curious and the conscious,” says Leigh Barnes, Intrepid’s President, the Americas. “Travellers who want to experience the world, not just check it off a list. With these guides, we’re helping readers make travel more personal, more powerful, and more responsible.”
This publishing milestone follows the success of ‘The Intrepid List,’ a hardcover collection of 100 travel stories from around the world released in 2024 in partnership with Hardie Grant Explore.
Intrepid says the new guidebooks represent the next chapter in its storytelling legacy, which is “rooted in the belief that travel, when done right, can change lives and protect the planet.”
Intrepid says it will expand the series with upcoming guides to Vietnam and Italy later this year.
