CLAP ALONG
It might seem crazy
07 DEC 2018: This Friday’s music video was inspired by a recent incident. Three women involved in our industry were having a conversation at the next table which we just happened to overhear. Their voices were loud - and okay – we were eavesdropping. These women - on an all expense paid cruise on a high end ship were listening to one of their colleagues bitching loudly about the treatment she had received from a staff member on the phone – she was literally furious at some – from the sound of it, imagined – slight. Her companions listened, commiserated and added their two bits. Need I add, the service on board was exemplary. MORE

GALWAY GIRL
Ed Sheeran
30 NOV 2018: Friday’s music video brings back memories of my recent visit to Ireland. It was an amazing experience in that rather than being a visitor, our Irish friends – old and new – and even the local people in restaurants, bars and stores made us welcome and part of a community. MORE

CHEAP TRICK
23 NOV 2018: Earlier this week we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach. Each room is named for a different singer or group and somewhat to my amusement mine was Cheap Trick. Checking out the band I discovered that they had actually played a concert on the beach at Daytona back in 1989. So that's what I chose for this week's music video.    MORE

THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA
Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz
16 NOV 2018: This is the music I grew up on. Getz, Brubeck, Baker, Mulligan. But this particular song is from an album simply called Getz/Gilberto and features Joao Gilberto’s wife, Astrud, singing The Girl from Ipanema. It’s a classic and I have owned this album through the years as an LP, an 8-track, a cassette, a CD, it was on my Ipod and is now on my iphone and ipad. It was first issued in 1963 (hold the age jokes). MORE

EVERYWHERE
09 NOV 2018: The song, “I’ve Been Everywhere” written by Geoff Mack, originally had Australian locations, but has since been adapted to countries all over the world. GEORGIA ON MY MIND
Annie Lennox knocks it out the park
02 NOV 2018: The iconic version of this week’s music video is undoubtedly that of Ray Charles from his 1960 album The Genius Hits the Road— but ‘Georgia on My Mind’ – now the official song of the State of Georgia, has been performed by any number of artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Willie Nelson, Louis Armstrong, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones, Coldplay, Oscar Peterson and Gladys Knight. The cover here is a personal favourite by Annie Lennox, from her 2014 album, Nostalgia. MORE

LIGHTFOOT AND WHALEN
19 OCT 2018: One of the requests we received for our Friday City/Destination music video was for Gordon Lightfoot’s Alberta Bound. MORE

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS
12 OCT 2018: When we asked for city or destination music references several readers sent in suggestions. It’s been fun for me going through them – and this one written by Steve Goodman and performed by Arlo Guthrie is, I thought, a good choice to cheer us up on a cold Friday morning. MORE
