G ADVENTURES DROPS ANCHOR IN SRI LANKA

G Adventures is relaunching sailing adventures along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline after a five-year pandemic pause. The catamaran trips are designed to combine adventure and relaxation in a destination dubbed the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean,’ and known for its natural beauty, cultural richness, and marine wonders. With first departures in December, the seven-day ‘Sri Lanka Sailing – South Coast’ trip can also be combined with land-based trips to create an extended two-week Sri Lanka experience.

The sailing trip will see travellers step aboard a 16-m. CEYCAT Catamaran and embark on a coastline-skimming adventure, starting and ending in the southern town of Mirissa, famed for its soft sand and opportunities to spot the resident blue whales. From there, From Mirissa, the group will tack east to Kudawella and Kalametiya, keeping eyes peeled for more dolphins and whales, diving into the sapphire-blue waters for swims, SUP and kayak sessions.

Guests will have an opportunity to wander through the village of Kalametiya, mingling with local residents and spotting some of the 150 bird, 38 reptile and 20 mammal species that call a nearby sanctuary home.

Sailing west to Rumassala, tour participants can spend an afternoon relaxing on Jungle Beach or hiking up to the Japanese Peace Pagoda with sweeping views over the Galle Bay. At the 16th-century UNESCO Galle Fort, travellers will visit the ramparts before exploring the capital, taking in the Dutch architecture and lovely atmosphere and stocking up on locally crafted souvenirs, before sailing back to Mirissa.

Every trip will be guided by one of G Adventures’ Chief Experience Officers and will also include an on-board Skipper and Chef, who will serve up fresh catch of the day and local dishes.

G Adventures’ Sailing Sri Lanka trip is ready to book now. It can also be combined with a number of G Adventures’ existing land-based itineraries, creating trips of up to 14 nights, or enjoyed as a dedicated sailing-based adventure.

“We couldn’t be more excited to relaunch Sailing Sri Lanka – South Coast,” says Vince Donnelly, Global Sailing Director, G Adventures. “There’s no better way to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka and the trip is the perfect mix of adventure and chill, with spectacular wildlife, sunrise swims, delicious food and time in local villages where residents welcome you like family. With demand for Sri Lanka growing, we knew it was time to bring this one back into the spotlight and do more to support a country that’s been through so much in recent years.”
