FIRST SOUTH AMERICAN NON-STOP FOR WESTJET: And other summer 2026 highlights

WestJet has revealed five new seasonal international destinations from Toronto, three new transatlantic destinations from Halifax, as well as new domestic and Nordic connections from Western Canada as part of its summer 2026 schedule. Headlining the route roster is WestJet’s first South American non-stop connection from Toronto: Medellín, Colombia.

The airline says its remaining schedule for summer 2026 will be announced early next year.

“Leveraging the extended range capability of our growing share of Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, WestJet is pleased to deliver a suite of new global destinations that are uniquely suited to our leisure strategy in Eastern Canada. The MAX can connect Eastern Canada to rich cultural destinations that guests want to travel to, and we are proud to be the airline that takes them there,” said WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech.

He added, “Toronto Pearson International airport serves as a natural connector for international travel, and we look forward to the two-way travel opportunities that will come from one of WestJet’s biggest investments in the region.”

Featured from Toronto Pearson will be Medellín, Colombia (4x weekly from April 28); Cardiff, Wales (4x weekly from May 22) and Portugal’s Azores islands (Ponta Delgada, 4x weekly from June 12).

The carrier is also returning service between Toronto and Glasgow, Scotland (4x weekly from May 15) for the first time since 2022.

Halifax gateway

Meanwhile, WestJet is also fortifying its position in Nova Scotia through the addition of four summer seasonal routes from Halifax Stanfield International Airport: Madrid (4x weekly from May 15); Lisbon (4x weekly from May 15); Copenhagen (4x weekly from May 28); and Detroit (7x weekly from May 18).

“With shorter flight durations, competitive pricing and seamless access to key European destinations and cultural hubs, WestJet is proud to call Halifax the airline’s Atlantic gateway to Europe,” continued von Hoensbroech. “These seasonal additions mark the most European destinations we have flown from Halifax.”

Edmonton, Winnipeg

Additionally, WestJet announced it will be connecting Edmonton and Winnipeg to Reykjavik, Iceland, weekly beginning June 26 and 27 respectively.

And Western Canadians will also see the introduction of two new domestic routes with three times weekly service between Winnipeg and London, Ont. (May 17), and Vancouver-Penticton, B.C. five days a week (May 15).

Sun destinations

As part of the summer 2026 schedule, the airline is also extending key sun destination routes to operate year-round from Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary and Winnipeg with both WestJet Vacations and Sunwing Vacations offering year-round vacation packages. Featured will will be weekly flights from Toronto to Puerto Plata; Montreal to Puerto Place and Samana; Quebec City to Cayo Coco; Winnipeg to Cancun; and Calgary to Mazatlan and Guadalajara.
