FINAL FLIGHTS ARRIVE HOME FROM CUBA: Exodus included 28,000 Canadians

The final commercially operated Canadian airline flight departed from Cuba late last week, completing an exodus of about 28,000 travellers, said Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand on Friday.

The return of the Canadian cohort was required after the suspension of flight service by Canadian airlines due to a fuel shortage that occurred when the United States took control of Venezuela’s oil reserves in January and halted the flow of petrol to the island.

Anand says and that some commercial flights from international airlines may still be available to return home (such as Air France, which has a refueling stop in nearby countries) and advises that Canadians still in Cuba should consider “while options are still available.”
