EMIRATES APPOINTS COUNTRY MANAGER IN CANADA

Emirates has appointed Shaz Peshimam as its Country Manager for Canada, in a new role following the airline’s plans to expand its operations in the country. This comes as part of the airline’s efforts to support its commercial strategies in Canada and, as Country Manager, Peshimam will be responsible for leading the airline’s operations, driving growth and strengthening Emirates’ footprint in the country.

He was previously Emirates’ Manager of UAE Sales, Dubai & Northern Emirates since 2008 and, in his new role, will report to Essa Sulaiman Ahmad, Emirates’ Divisional Vice President – USA and Canada.

Of the appointment Sulaiman said: “I am pleased to welcome Shaz in his new role as Country Manager – Canada. We have been operating in the country since 2007, and the appointment of Shaz as a dedicated Country Manager will help us to drive growth of our online and offline sales through our network of travel partners as well as our operations.

“Canada is an important market for Emirates and his wealth of experience in sales will surely be an asset to us. With the recent enhancements in bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Canada, Emirates is pleased to revitalize its emphasis on Canada, as a crucial part of its growth strategy in the Americas. As we expand our operations in the country to two cities this summer, we look forward to his support in achieving our commercial objectives, overseeing our operations in Canada as well as maintaining crucial relations with various stakeholders, including local authorities, diplomatic missions, tourism bodies, travel trade partners, customers, employees, and more. Starting from July, Montréal will become our second gateway in Canada after Toronto and I would like to congratulate him on the new role and challenge.”

Peshimam joined Emirates in 2006 as Sales Manager – Western India based in Mumbai, serving in one of the airline’s biggest markets in the region. His post in India provided him with an in-depth understanding of Emirates’ international operations as well as providing him the opportunity to gain the necessary market knowledge and understanding of the competitive landscape. He was in this role for two years before being promoted in 2008, to his most recent role in UAE Sales, based in Emirates’ headquarters in Dubai.

In his latest post with Emirates, Peshimam gained diversified experience across the airline’s operations. In addition to successfully managing sales in the airline’s home market and being a major contributor to its success and growth, he was instrumental in developing and executing commercial strategies in the UAE, managing trade and corporate relationships, as well as training of talent for future leadership roles in the company. Prior to joining Emirates in 2006, Peshimam also had previous stints with two other airlines, based in the Middle East.

Emirates has been operating to Canada since 2007 and provides daily passenger and cargo services to Toronto onboard its flagship A380 aircraft. From July, Emirates will introduce services to Montréal, with daily services utilising a Boeing 777 aircraft. Emirates’ operations connects customers to more than 130 destinations via Dubai and facilitates the movement of goods to more than 140 destinations worldwide. –
