DUTCH TREAT:Sandals back in the swim of things

Guests returning to Sandals South Coast in Jamaica this fall will have a surprise in store as Sandals Resorts International unveils a multi-million-dollar renovation featuring what the all-inclusive giant calls a “world first.”

Set to debut in December (following the resort’s post-pandemic reopening on Oct. 1), a completely reimagined 112-room Dutch Village with cutting edge swim-up Rondoval Suites will usher in “a new era for the resort,” which will also see a modern lush wedding venue added to adorn the garden in the resort’s Italian Village.

However, the highlight of the project is clearly the addition of the world’s first-ever Swim-up Rondoval Suites in the Dutch section – luxurious units positioned on a 1,580-sq.m. pool oasis and each featuring zero-entry access to what Sandals says is “the longest pool in the Western Hemisphere.”

Designed to be “a luxurious haven tucked away from the world’s path,” the suites will measure 6.7 m in diameter with 6-m.-high conical ceilings. They will also have private plunge pools ornamented with Italian glass-clad fountains and Indonesian limestone and a cozy indoor wicker swing with scenic outdoor views.

Furnishings will be custom-made from across the globe, bathrooms will boast a suspended stone vanity with a Hollywood lit mirror, and outdoors, contemporary lounge furnishings will complete the private coral sundeck.

The rooms will also include full butler service.

While the Rondoval suites aren’t new – they were first introduced at Sandals Grande Antigua, followed by Sandals Grande St. Lucian, Sandals Grenada and Sandals Royal Barbados – the Sandals South Coast (formerly called Sandals Whitehouse) versions, will be the first with the swim-up feature.

At the same, the Dutch Village will undergo a complete renovation with fully reimagined suites reflecting the water’s natural beauty with a light blue and neutral colour scheme.

The 112-room village – comprised of 16 Butler Elite suites and 96 Club and Luxury Level rooms – will include indoor free-standing tubs and showers, outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tubs for two, and swim-up access from a private pool for select categories.

The enhancements join the resort’s existing unique architectural design features, such as Over-the-Water Bungalows, Over-the-Water Serenity Wedding Chapel, and an overwater bar offering 360-degree views of the ocean.

“Sandals South Coast is one of the most beautiful destinations in the uncharted land of Jamaica,” says Gordon “Butch” Stewart, Chairman of Sandals Resorts, citing the resort’s setting in a half-hectare nature preserve. “Our goal is to exceed expectations time and time again, and the new Sandals South Coast will do that and more.”

The new Swim-Up Rondoval Suites and renovated Dutch Village suites are now accepting reservations for arrivals beginning Dec. 10.
