The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism hosted the DR Tourism Roadshow Toronto on May 12 at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, bringing together travel advisors, tour operators, airline partners, media representatives, and tourism stakeholders for an evening dedicated to showcasing the destination’s latest tourism developments, experiences, and growing connectivity with the Canadian market.
The event highlighted the Dominican Republic’s diverse tourism offering, including Punta Cana, Samaná, Miches, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, and La Romana, while presenting new hotel openings, tourism projects, and upcoming developments shaping the future of the destination.
Guests enjoyed Dominican-inspired cocktails, cuisine, entertainment, and networking opportunities with key tourism partners and industry leaders.
Canada continues to represent one of the Dominican Republic’s most important international tourism markets. In 2025, the destination welcomed more than 1.1 million Canadian visitors, representing 13% of total international arrivals to the country. Ontario accounted for 47% of Canadian visitors, while Quebec represented 39%, reinforcing the importance of these key markets for the destination’s continued growth.
Strong air connectivity continues to support this momentum, with more than 6,700 flights operated between Canada and the Dominican Republic in 2025 across 29 routes, maintaining an average load factor of 83%. Punta Cana remained the leading gateway for Canadian travellers, welcoming 80% of visitors from the market.
Canadian travellers also continue to demonstrate high satisfaction and loyalty toward the destination. According to the latest tourism insights, 92% of Canadian visitors stated they would return to the Dominican Republic, while 53% said they would recommend the destination to others. Beaches, climate, hotels, and direct flight accessibility remain among the top reasons Canadians choose the Dominican Republic for their vacations.
“The Canadian market continues to play a strategic role in the Dominican Republic’s tourism growth and diversification strategy. Through initiatives like the Toronto Roadshow, we are strengthening relationships with travel professionals and partners while showcasing the dynamic evolution of our destination and the experiences that continue to resonate with Canadian travellers,” said David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic.
The Toronto roadshow forms part of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in the Canadian market and reinforce the country’s position as one of the Caribbean’s leading travel destinations.
