CREATURE COMFORT: Unique jellyfish museum a gem in South Florida

Visitors to the Jellyfish Museum in Pompano Beach, Fla. – the first attraction in the United States dedicated entirely to unique ocean creatures – invites visitors to the Greater Fort Lauderdale and South Florida to explore the beauty and mystery of the fascinating marine creatures through glowing aquariums, immersive exhibits, and interactive displays.

Opened at the end of March, the museum is located just across the street from the Pompano Beach Fishing Village and offers a unique indoor experience where visitors can discover 21 different species of jellyfish – from Crystal to Red Cannonball – from around the world while learning about their role in the ocean ecosystem.

Inside the Jellyfish Museum, visitors step into an underwater-inspired environment where science, art, and marine life come together. Illuminated aquariums showcase jellyfish drifting gracefully through the water, creating a calming and visually stunning atmosphere.

The glowing displays highlight the elegance of these delicate creatures while introducing visitors to fascinating facts about each species – among them that jellyfish are 500 years old, consist of 95% water, and have a life span of only about three months.

The museum features a series of exhibits designed to immerse visitors in the mysterious world of jellyfish. Interactive displays explore how jellyfish move, feed, and survive in oceans around the globe. Educational installations highlight the incredible diversity of species while offering insights into their importance within marine ecosystems. The experience blends entertainment and learning, making it a fun and educational stop for families, couples, and curious explorers of all ages.

Tours are self-guided or with a pre-arranged guide (at extra cost), who will reveal such fun facts as jellyfish have been sent into space, and are made into snack food chips. And, practically, how to treat stings, etc., if encountered in the surf.

“The museum appeals to people on a lot of different levels,” says the museum’s Jessica Eisenbarth, who adds, “we hope to appeal to people to see what’s going on in the ocean, to open people’s eyes to something bigger, and to care for the ocean.”
