CANADA MAKES KEY PALESTINE UPDATE – BUT STILL DON’T GO

After it formal recognition of the Palestinian state this week, Canada has updated it’s travel advisory for “Israel and Palestine,” though still warning visitors to avoid non-essential travel to the former and “all travel” to the latter.

The federal government travel update notably altered the designation of the listing, having previously being referred to as “Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.”

Canada, along with some other countries, including Britain, France, Australia and Portugal, recognized Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The advisory for Palestine says “Avoid all travel… due to the ongoing Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and the unpredictable security situation in the West Bank. This advisory excludes the following roads, where you should avoid non-essential travel: Highway 1 (and) Route 90, from the intersection with Highway 1 to King Hussein Bridge (Allenby), near Jericho. The security situation can deteriorate rapidly in both Israel and Palestine.”
