The Kingdom of Bhutan will host its first-ever travel exhibition June 11-13 at Zhichenkhar, Thimphu, designed to facilitate tourism to the emerging “Thunder Dragon Kingdom.”
“As Bhutan’s tourism continues to evolve guided by the principles of ‘high value, low volume’ tourism, platforms like BITM become increasingly important. BITM is not merely an exhibition, it is a declaration of Bhutan’s leadership in leading a new era of mindful, regenerative, sustainable and deeply transformative tourism on the global stage,” says Damcho Rinzin, Director, Department of Tourism – Bhutan.
“They allow us to tell our story directly to the world, strengthen partnerships, and create meaningful business linkages right here in Bhutan. It makes it possible to showcase Bhutan through our partners to our international partners.
“A defining feature of BITM will be our dedicated focus on Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). GMC is the heart of our future – a visionary blueprint that will become a living sanctuary for mindfulness, which will become the primary driver for high-value tourism.”
Kinley Gyeltshen, Chairman, Association of the Bhutanese Tour Operators, added, “We want BITM to grow into a globally recognized platform that showcases Bhutan’s unique value proposition to the world. It will create a valuable platform for our partners to connect directly with international buyers here in Bhutan, build strong business relationships, and secure meaningful partnerships.”
‘Bhutan Believe’
Bhutan’s new national brand “Bhutan Believe” underscores the nation’s belief in a better future, led by wisdom from the past. The national tagline is about believing in the future of Bhutan, as well as the potential, possibilities and opportunities that Bhutan offers in a rapidly evolving world.
Bhutan visas and SDF
All visitors must have a visa and permit before travelling to Bhutan (except for visitors from Bangladesh, Maldives, and India who require a permit). Visitors can apply online or via a Bhutanese tour operator. It takes around five days to process.
All guests must pay Bhutan’s Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100 p.p. per night (concessionary rates apply for children) and a non-refundable, one-off visa application fee of US$40. The SDF funds cultural, environmental, health and educational projects across Bhutan.
