AMEN FOR AMAN: Los Cabos welcomes ultra-luxury retreat

As Los Cabos enjoys continued growth from the Canadian market, the Mexican resort destination is set to “open a new chapter,” with the debut of Aman’s first ultra-luxury retreat in the country, Amanvari, on Aug. 1.

Reservations are now open for the resort, which will comprise of just 18 casitas and a limited collection of Aman-branded residences within the exclusive Costa Palmas community on Baja’s East Cape.

Set where the desert meets the Sea of Cortez, Amanvari is designed to take advantage of its extraordinary natural surroundings. Accommodations are positioned either among lush palms or directly along the shoreline, with sweeping views of the sea and Sierra de la Laguna mountains. Each 82-sq.-m. casita blends indoor and outdoor living through expansive terraces, a private heated pool and outdoor shower, while interiors feature a calming palette of sand-hued natural materials accented by bespoke ceramics and original works by local artists.

Beyond the accommodations, guests will have access to the Costa Palmas community, including 5 km of swimmable beachfront, 7.25 hectares of organic orchards and farms, a Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course and a private marina and yacht club.

The resort’s culinary offering include the brand’s signature Italian restaurant Arva and Sesui, an authentic Japanese concept centred around a 10-seat omakase counter and à la carte dining. At Luma, Mexican cuisine is reimagined through open-fire cooking and coastal traditions.

The Aman Spa will offer six treatment rooms, two Hydro Houses featuring a banya and hammam, and a contemporary temazcal, creating a wellness experience inspired by the elemental connection between land, ocean, and sky.

Canadian market continues to grow

Recent destination data underscores Canada’s growing importance to Los Cabos. Travel originating from Calgary increased more than 21% year over year, making it the fastest-growing major Canadian gateway to the destination, while Toronto-origin travel rose more than 15%, indicating that increased access from Eastern Canada continues to broaden connectivity beyond traditional Western gateways.

Collectively, Canada now represents nearly 20% of all visitors to Los Cabos, making this country, the destination’s second-largest international source market after the United States.

“Canada has become one of our most important international markets, and we’re seeing that growth expand across the country,” says Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board. “Airlines are adding service because demand is strong and consistent, and because Los Cabos offers an experience that continues to resonate with Canadian travellers.”

This winter, Canadian travellers will have even more ways to reach Los Cabos:

  • Beginning Nov. 16, Porter Airlines will launch new non-stop service from Toronto (three times weekly) and Edmonton (four times weekly), followed by Ottawa (twice weekly) beginning Dec. 18
  • Air Transat will also introduce weekly non-stop service from Montreal beginning Dec. 10

Canadian travel trade

“As the destination continues to welcome significant investments like Amanvari and benefit from expanded connectivity, we’re equally focused on supporting our travel advisor partners through education and engagement so they can confidently match clients with the exceptional experiences available throughout Los Cabos,” says Eponda.

To that end, the tourism board will also host face-to-face meetings in Ottawa on Aug. 20 and Edmonton on Aug. 21 as part of its North American roadshow, providing advisors with the opportunity to connect with destination representatives, learn about the latest developments and strengthen their knowledge of the destination.

Travel advisors interested in scheduling a personalized appointment during the Ottawa or Edmonton roadshows are encouraged to contact Maria Avilez, Leisure Promotion Manager, at mavilez@visitloscabos.travel.

For advisors across the country looking to deepen their knowledge of the destination, Los Cabos also offers personalized destination training sessions tailored to individual advisors or agency teams.

Los Cabos

Set at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos offers a distinct experience within Mexico, defined by its geography, infrastructure and approach to tourism. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, the destination operates within a contained and highly managed environment, contributing to its strong reputation for safety, ease of travel and reliability for international visitors.

Beyond accessibility, Los Cabos continues to stand out for the diversity and quality of its experiences. From marine life encounters and desert landscapes to a growing culinary and wellness offering, the destination appeals to travellers seeking more than a traditional beach holiday. A high rate of repeat visitation and longer average stays among Canadian travellers further reinforce its position as a destination that encourages deeper exploration.

“What makes Los Cabos distinct is the combination of ocean, desert and mountains, and the ability to experience all three in a single trip,” says Esponda. “It’s a destination where travellers can move easily, feel comfortable and connect with both the environment and the culture in a meaningful way.”
