GOWAY SURVEY TELLS ALL: Reveals quirks, perks and confessions of being a travel advisor

With the release of its inaugural “Confessions of a Travel Advisor” survey, Goway travel says it is offering a “real and entertaining snapshot behind the scenes” of life as a t.a.

“Navigating a career as a travel advisor is no easy feat, and it’s often misunderstood,” says the Toronto-based tour operator.

With this in mind, Goway says it decided to ask its travel advisor community what it’s really like on the job today and get to the heart of the profession that is “part strategist, part therapist, and part miracle worker.”

More than 1,600 travel advisors across North America responded, weighing in on four key areas:

  1. Travel Advisor Superpowers
  2. The Happiness Index
  3. The Real Challenges
  4. AI’s Seat at the Table

Among the questions asked were ‘what’s your superpower for dealing with issues?’; what do clients most underestimate about your job?’; ‘what client do you dread the most?’; and, ‘would you recommend travel advisor as a profession?’

Notable survey highlights

Among the responses, the survey revealed:

  • Staying calm under pressure is the top superpower in handling issues
  • 62% of respondents say receiving texts with pictures is their favourite client gesture
  • 89% of advisors reported that their clients have come to them with their own AI research
  • The most underestimated part of the job is how much time it takes to plan properly
