Canadian passport holders will continue to have visa-free entry to Thailand for tourism stays of up to 30 days under an updated entry framework that comes into effect this week, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)
The new rules end the previous temporary 60-day visa exemption and replace it with a clearer, modernized framework offering 30-day visa-free entry, 15-day visa-free entry, or Visa on Arrival, depending on nationality.
Canada is among 60 countries and territories – alongside the U.S., U.K., Australia, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and India — whose citizens qualify for 30-day visa-free entry for tourism.
Canadians visiting Thailand for holidays of up to 30 days require no advance visa. Travellers planning longer stays, or visiting for purposes other than tourism, should apply for the appropriate visa in advance through Thailand’s official e-Visa portal, thaievisa.go.th.
“Canada is one of Thailand’s most valued long-haul markets, and this update gives Canadian travellers and the travel trade what they value most: clarity,” says Anoma Vongyai, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chicago Office, which oversees the Canadian market. “Thirty days visa-free comfortably covers the vast majority of Canadian holidays to Thailand, and the new framework makes planning simple and predictable – whether it is a first visit to Bangkok and the islands or a return trip to explore the north.”
Land-border entries under the exemptions are limited to two per calendar year for most nationalities, with exceptions for nationals of designated neighbouring countries. Arrivals by air are not subject to this limit. The rules took effect Sept. 15.
