Booking.com is facing several major legal battles, over anti-competitive price parity clauses. More than 10,000 hotels across Europe have joined a landmark European class-action lawsuit, significantly expanding a case against the hotel booking company that could ultimately involve claims worth several billion euros.
Amsterdam based Stichting Hotel Claims Alliance (SHCA) is a not-for-profit foundation established under Dutch law to pursue compensation claims on behalf of hotels affected by Booking.com’s pricing practices. SHCA announced it has filed claims on behalf of an additional 7,696 hotels with the Amsterdam District Court. The latest filing increases the number of participating properties from 3,087 to 10,783.
The lawsuit, launched on January 30, 2026, seeks damages related to Booking.com’s use of so-called price parity clauses between 2004 and 2024. Hotels argue the clauses prevented them from offering lower room rates or better booking conditions through other sales channels, restricting competition and limiting their pricing freedom.
The action is supported by European hotel association Hotrec and backed by UKhospitality, one of more than 30 national hotel associations involved and encouraging members to join the claim.
More hotels expected to follow lawsuit.
SHCA expects participation to expand even further in the fall of 2026, when it is anticipated that about 18,000 hotels will join the action. Hotels can continue registering until September 11, 2026.
The case is being heard by the Amsterdam District Court because Booking.com’s terms and conditions designate the Dutch courts as the venue for disputes between the company and hotels. SHCA also noted the court is already familiar with the issues through related proceedings that have been underway since 2020.
