FLOWER POWER: Martinique hails growing stature, increased lift from Canada

Pointing to up to 18 direct weekly flights to Martinique from Canada this winter, including service from Air Transat and Air Canada, the tourist board for the island of Martinique is hailing its strong momentum and growing stature in this country.

“This growth reflects steady and sustained progress for the destination, driven both by a favourable geopolitical context and by consistent, long-term efforts on the ground in Canada,” says the Martinique Tourism Authority.

Air Transat is continuing its strategic expansion with the launch of a new weekly direct flight from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport, starting Dec. 19 with frequency increasing to twice weekly as of Feb. 16, 2027.

From Québec City (YQB), the airline is also strengthening its offering, building on the success of the route launched in 2025, now operating two weekly flights to Fort-de-France, in addition to its established service from Montréal (YUL).

At the same time, Air Canada is further boosting this momentum by increasing its own capacity to Martinique.

In concert, this expansion of service “amounts to an unprecedented level of connectivity between Canada and the “Island of Flowers,” says the MTA.

Bénédicte di Géronimo, Commissioner of the Tourism Authority, stated, “We are delighted to see this continued growth, which reflects the strength and maturity of our positioning in the Canadian market. Canada is a long-standing partner for Martinique, and this development highlights the growing interest in the destination. In an evolving international context, Martinique stands out as a safe, authentic and accessible choice, and we will continue working to sustain this positive momentum over the long term.”

With direct flight times of approximately five hours from Montréal, Québec City and Toronto, Martinique, Canadians have easy access to the island’s exceptional biodiversity, vibrant Creole lifestyle, stunning beaches and renowned gastronomy.

“We welcome this strengthening of air links between our regions with great humility and gratitude. It is the result of long-standing efforts carried out across Canada, engaging closely with both the general public and travel advisors,” said Karine Roy-Camille, Deputy Director Americas. “We continue to develop our initiatives through training sessions, webinars, partnerships, and ongoing support for travel agent networks, to further promote Martinique and sustain its growth in this key market.”

Martinique has long benefited from a close cultural affinity with Québec and a high level of visitor loyalty. More broadly across Canada, Martinique appeals to travellers for its safe and reassuring environment and warm hospitality of its people. In 2025, more than 43,000 Canadian visitors travelled to Martinique, with a repeat visitation rate of 52%.
