By MICHAEL BAGINSKI/ It seems like it was only a year ago that Ringo had a birthday. Well, he’s at it again, turning 86 on July 7. And is tradition, each year on that day (since 2008), the former Beatle invites people everywhere to pause at 12 noon local time to say, think, or post “Peace and Love” as a collective moment of global unity.
Starr’s heartfelt tradition is now recognized worldwide as a simple yet powerful gesture of kindness and hope.
In the meantime, we’ll tap into the oldest Beatle’s post Fab Four career this week to offer his top solo hit, “Photograph.” Co-written with George Harrison, the song reached No. 1 in 1973 and stayed on the charts for 16 weeks.
Perhaps surprisingly, Ringo proved to have a very successful solo career, charting another No. 1, (also a Harrison collaboration) “It Don’t Come Easy,” along with such quirky hits as “The No No Song,” “Back Off Boogaloo,” and “Oh My My.”
According to Billboard, the two ex-Beatles wrote “Photograph” in the south of France while attending Mick and Bianca Jagger’s wedding in 1971.
In this clip, he performed it again with his ‘All Starr Band’ in Las Vegas – more than 50 years later and still going strong.
Peace and love, Ringo.
Lyrics
Ev’ry time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not coming back anymore.
I thought I’d make it the day you went away,
But I can’t make it
Till you come home again to stay.
I can’t get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears I cried for you.
I want you here to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey.
Now you’re expecting me to live without you,
But that’s not something that I’m looking forward to.
I can’t get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears I cried for you.
I want you here to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey.
Ev’ry time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not coming back anymore.
Ev’ry time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not coming back anymore.
Ev’ry time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not.
