Canadian travel industry veteran and, until recently, president of Sunwing Vacations Group Andrew Dawson, has joined Royalton Hotels International as Chief Financial Officer. The Canadian-based all-inclusive hospitality brand operates more than two dozen luxury properties across the Caribbean and Mexico.
Owned by the Hunter family, Royalton was not part of the sale of Sunwing Airlines and Vacations by the Hunters to Onex-WestJet in May 2023.
Dawson brings more than 35 years of leadership experience across finance, operations, commercial strategy, and large-scale business transformation within the travel and hospitality industry to the hotel company.
“Andrew spent 17 years at Sunwing in executive roles as Chief Operating Officer of the Sunwing Travel Group as well as President of Tour Operations, helping drive significant growth, expand market share, and building one of the strongest integrated travel organizations in the world,” says Stephen Hunter, CEO of Royalton Hotels International.
At the end of March, Dawson, stepped down from WestJet/Sunwing “where he was instrumental in the integration of the Tour Operator brands,” Hunter added.
Brit-born Dawson qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in the UK in 1993, and prior to his time at Sunwing, had held a mix of senior finance and commercial leadership roles in grocery retailing, and across various travel and hospitality businesses in the UK, California and Canada.
“Andrew brings a strong operational mindset, deep financial experience, and a practical, results-driven approach to leadership,” says Hunter. “I’m confident he will be a valuable addition to our executive team as we continue to grow the business.”
