By MICHAEL BAGINSKI/ Charlie Watts had a life beyond his day job – keeping time for The Rolling Stones. In fact, the late Watts was a dedicated jazz drummer, who led his own band, The Charlie Watts Quintet.
Here, Watts shows off his swing chops, but it’s Jools Holland and a couple off his “friends” who steal the show in the three-barrelled piano carnival, “ABC of Boogie Woogie.”
The clip comes from a series of performances celebrating the 30th anniversary of Holland’s popular British TV music show, “Later… With Jools Holland,” in which the former founding member of Squeeze interviews prominent musical personalities – and sometimes even boogies with them.
In this case, as one commentor put it, it was so good it even made the usually stone-faced Watts smile.
