By MICHAEL BAGINSKI/ Last summer I shared my discovery of the year (which held for the rest of the calendar) – a “brand new” 30-year-old band from Scotland I had managed to miss before, prompting an enraged Scottish fellow to point at me at a trade show in Mexico of all places and yell – in full, glorious brogue – “How could ya ha’ missed Primal Scream?”
After all, sounding a little bit – okay, a lot – like the Rolling Stones (at least at one stage of Scream’s career), the band prompted YouTube commentators to make such declarations as “Best Rolling Stones record of the ‘90s, hands down,” “The best early 70’s rock song to be written in the early 90’s,” and, “Good enough to get on a Rolling Stones greatest hits – and I mean that as a big compliment.”
I noted then that I was torn between a couple of the band’s songs for that week’s video, ultimately choosing the kinetic “Rocks” and promising to follow up at a later date with the equally marvellous gospel-infused “Movin’ On Up.”
So, here it is – promise kept!
Lyrics
I was blind, now I can see, you made a believer out of me
I was blind, now I can see, you made a believer out of me
I’m moving on up now, getting out of the darkness
My light shines on, my light shines on, my light shines on
I was lost, now I’m found, I believe in you, I’ve got no bounds
I was lost, now I’m found, I believe in you, I got no bounds
I’m moving on up now, getting out of the darkness
My light shines on, my light shines on, my light shines on
(My light shines on) my light shines on
(My light shines on) my light shines on
My light shines on, my light shines on
My light shines on, my light shines on
I’m getting outta darkness, my light shines on (my light shines on)
