Canadian airlines began flying in and out of Puerto Vallarta again Tuesday after widespread violence led them to temporarily suspend service since the weekend. Air Canada, Air Transat, WestJet and Porter Airlines all announced were resuming flights to and from the popular western Mexican resort city, with WestJet also offering service to Guadalajara and Manzanillo.
Tourists and locals in multiple regions of Mexico were told to shelter in place to escape violence that erupted on Sunday after the death of a notorious cartel leader as part of a Mexican government operation and Global Affairs Canada continues to advise people to exercise a high degree caution in Mexico.
Some politicians had called for the government to evacuate affected Canadians.
All Canadian carriers said they continue to monitor developments in the region and advised passengers to check their airport status in advance and leave extra time for check-in and security procedures.
Air Canada: Flights resumed with a modified schedule to and from Puerto Vallarta (PVR) on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and to and from Guadalajara (GDL) on Wed. February 25.
