Canada is having a moment. This week, our home and native land was named among the Top 10 Countries in the World in the 2025 US Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, one of the most respected accolades in global travel.
Each year, Condé Nast Traveler invites hundreds of thousands of readers to rate their favourite destinations across the globe. In the 2025 rankings, Canada earned the No. 10 spot, a recognition that celebrates both the country’s “breathtaking landscapes and the warmth of its people.”
Top ‘Countries in the World’ according to Condé Nast readers are:
- Japan 95.36
- Greece 92.31
- Portugal 92.08
- Italy 92.02
- Spain 91.96
- Türkiye 91.91
- Ireland 91.59
- Croatia 91.56
- France 91.24
- Canada 90.94
The next 10 (11-20) are Switzerland, Mexico, Germany, India, Thailand, Morocco, Austria, Dominica, Bhutan, and South Africa.
A number of Canadian cities were also rated:
- Quebec City: Ranked #10, known for its French architecture, historic atmosphere, and winter charm.
- Toronto: Ranked #15, recognized for its educational attainment, tree cover, and as Canada’s gateway for skilled immigrants.
- Vancouver: Ranked #22, celebrated for its views, mild climate, and multiculturalism.
- Montreal: Ranked #44, praised for its culture, food, and festivals, as well as its stunning views from Mount Royal.
Meanwhile, YVR placed 10th in the Best Airport category with Condé Nast writing: “Also ranked one of the top airports for accessibility this year, Vancouver International is the gateway to the British Columbia hub’s ski slopes and diverse culinary scene. Reflecting the city itself is the dining options inside the airport, like YVR’s Japadog on Terminal Level 3 – a celebrated hot dog stand where travellers line up for the Kurobuta Terimayo, or #1, topped with seaweed.”
More accolades
The recognition joins a wave of 2025 accolades, among them ‘Most Loved Country in the World’ in the Country RepTrak report, reflecting Canada’s natural beauty, safety, and welcoming spirit.
Canada also snagged three of the top five spots on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list including Mon Lapin (Montréal), Restaurant Pearl Morissette (Lincoln, Ont.) and Tanière3 (Québec City).
“Travellers today are craving what’s real; experiences that build compassion, spark belonging, and remind us of what we share,” says Gloria Loree, Sr. VP, Marketing Strategy & Chief Marketing Officer at Destination Canada. “It’s a place that welcomes you in, leaves a lasting mark, and sends you home seeing the world and one another a little differently.”
Destination Canada continues: “As travellers seek connection, meaning, and authenticity, Canada continues to deliver whether through vibrant cityscapes like Toronto and Montréal, wild wonderlands like Banff and Yukon, or Indigenous-led experiences that honour the land and its stories.
