By Michael Baginski/ We recently introduced Imelda May (if an intro is in fact needed) in a guest starring role with the legendary late guitarist Jeff Beck. It’s only fair then to give the powerhouse Irish vocalist her own turn in the spotlight, in this case belting out a raucous version of the Soft Cell favourite “Tainted Love.”
Compared to Billy Holliday (high praise, indeed), the stylish May came to prominence in the early 2000s channeling a rockabilly revival that colours, but does not define, a successful career that has seen her record half a dozen albums, perform with a lengthy Hall of Fame-worthy list of artists, and even front her own TV show, as well as taking part in several prominent benefits, including a “A Night for Ukraine.”
Early on, May notably caught the attention of U2’s Bono, who is credited with providing her “creative guidance” throughout career, with the pair also having traded surprise guest spots in each other’s shows.
Over nearly 25 years, May has won numerous awards and acknowledgements. Her most recent album was released in 2021.
