WAR WREAKS HAVOC ON MIDDLE EAST AIR ROUTES

Dozens of airlines – including Air Canada – are cancelling more flights to the Middle East as the war between Israel/the U.S. and Iran escalates, including an attack by the latter on a U.S. military base in Qatar on Monday.

More than 20 aircraft that were headed from Doha were reported to be diverted as Qatar closed its airspace, while some other planes bound for Dubai turned around.

Last week, Air Canada reported that it had suspended flights to Dubai, stating, “Due to the ongoing security situation in the Middle East, and as a precautionary measure, Air Canada is temporarily suspending its daily, non-stop service between Toronto and Dubai… up to and including July 3, 2025, at which time it may be further extended following a safety assessment in consultation with government and other authorities.”

Dubai’s airport urged all passengers to check their flights before going to the airport.

Reports suggested that air space over Bahrain and the UAE were closed, at least temporarily.

Among the many carriers cancelling flights across the region were British Airways, Air France to Saudi Arabia, and EgyptAir to Beirut, Amman, Baghdad, and Erbil (Kurdistan) until further notice.
