CANADA COMPASS:  New hotel openings and expansions across Québec

Spring’s hotel headlines point to thoughtful growth in the industry, with new openings, innovative ownership models, and seasonal experiences that reflect evolving traveller priorities such as design, connection and a sense of place. Here are five highlights of note.

  • Gray Collection’s Le Petit Hôtel recently opened a second location in Old Montréal. Located in a 19th-century heritage building, Le Petit Hôtel Notre Dame features 17 one-of-a-kind guest rooms with contemporary furnishings and a distinct historic flair. The city also recently welcomed the arrival of the new Moxy Montréal Downtown, Marriott’s first Moxy property in the city.
  • Four First Nations groups have acquired a majority stake in the Hilton Québec hotel, which is located on Huron-Wendat Nation traditional territory. The partnership entity titled Atenro (“friendship” in the Wendat language) brings together the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach, the Mi’gmaq of Gespe’gewa’gi, the Huron-Wendat Nation and the Cree Nation.
  • Hôtel UNIQ returns for a sixth season this year from May 16 to October 13. The eco-chic glamping site will once again pop up for the summer at la Forêt Ô Cascades in the Lanaudière region and Domaine Saint-Bernard at Tremblant in the Laurentians. The large yurt-style tents feature luxurious and personalized amenities enhanced with community programming on site.
  • Manoir Hovey in the Eastern Townships has added a stately new Lakeside Pavilion on the shores of Lake Massawippi. The Pavilion is home to 12 elegant rooms and spacious three-level suites, and a private dock that gives guests unparalleled lake access.
  • Exode en Nature has added two new cabins to its collection of unconventional accommodations nestled in the heart of the Saguenay Fjord. La Thuya is a large dome cabin set on an outdoor platform and La Pembina is a contemporary tiny cottage with interior catamaran-style netting designed for relaxation. Both four-season units also offer private Nordic baths and access to the Pelletier River.
