WHEN YOU WISH UPON A CRUISE: Avalon unveils new, longer cruises

In response to a “wish list” survey of past cruisers earlier this year, Avalon Waterways says it will introduce a series of new, longer cruises, checking in at 10 days and more to meet interest and demand.

According to the company, the survey, which garnered 16,600 responses, revealed is that cruisers want longer, more in-depth getaways with more than half of Avalon Waterways’ past cruisers (57%) stating that they’d like to book a two-week vacation for their next cruise. That’s 23% more than those who said they will be booking a one-week trip.

And another 10% said they’re looking at three-week options.

With this in mind, Avalon will introduce 16 new and longer itineraries and city-stay combinations for 2025.

“The pent-up desire for long-haul travel, combined with an increased interest in garnering more mileage out of air costs, as well as the rise in remote work are contributing factors to this post-pandemic travel trend,” says Avalon Waterways president Pam Hoffee. “Today’s cruisers have a stronger interest – and broader abilities – to make the most of their time away. We’re helping with big, new, ‘Bucket List’ cruises for 2025.”

Samples of new, longer cruise offerings from Avalon in 2025 include:

10+ Days:

  • The Netherlands in Bloom (10 days, to/from Amsterdam)
  • Illuminations of the Danube (10 days, from Vilshofen to Budapest)

Two Weeks:

  • The Danube from Germany to Romania (15 days, from Vilshofen to Oltenita)
  • Timeless Rivers of Europe: The Rhine & Seine (15 days, from Basel to Paris)

Three Weeks:

  • European Masterpiece: The Rhine, Seine & Rhône Revealed (22 days, from Basel to Arles)
  • From Romania to the North Sea (24 days from Oltenita to Amsterdam)

Several of Avalon’s new, longer cruise options also invite cruisers to add pre- and post-cruise stays in destinations like Lucerne, Nice and Prague.
