The Travel Industry Council of Ontario says it will launch a broad and comprehensive consultation process with registrants and stakeholders in the coming weeks about its funding framework and fee model proposals, including the Compensation Fund.
TICO says that members can expect to receive a package during the first week of October that outlines the proposals that came out of the review.
The Council further plans to host both virtual and in-person sessions to hear directly from members and will provide an opportunity to share feedback via an online survey.
Over the past year, TICO conducted a comprehensive funding framework review, including the Compensation Fund. As part of the review, input was sought from Ontario consumers, registrants, and industry stakeholders. A comparator scan was conducted to understand practices and approaches taken by comparable travel regulatory bodies in other regions, including Quebec.
The contentious review of the Compensation Fund has drawn criticism from both ACTA and CATO and is certain to be front and centre at today’s ACTA Summit in Toronto (Sept 14) and again at the TICO AGM on Sep 26.
