08 NOV 2019: The news regarding the misguided attempt to rename the historic Route 66, gave us the inspiration for this Friday’s music video. Here’s Bobby Troup, who wrote the song, performing it way back when. Route 66 has been sung by any number of artists from Nat King Cole to the Rolling Stones – and if you’re at Toronto’s Jazz Bistro (or any other venue) some night when Colin Hunter is performing, you’re in for a treat – it’s one of his standards.

Route 66

If you ever plan to motor west
Travel my way, take the highway that is best
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six

It winds from Chicago to LA
More than two thousand miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six

Now you go through Saint Looey
Joplin, Missouri
and Oklahoma City is mighty pretty
You see Amarillo
Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona
Don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernandino

Won't you get hip to this timely tip
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six

Won't you get hip to this timely tip
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six
