08 NOV 2019: Barely nine months after Icelandic low-cost carrier WOW failed, its former vice president of operations is planning to launch a new budget carrier with flights to Europe and the US.

Arnar Mar Magnusson, says he will start selling tickets for his new airline curiously named PLAY, later this month, and it will start flying in spring of 2020.

Currently however the airline has no aircraft, no confirmed route network, and no operating certificate.

PLAY says it will begin by operating two Airbus A321s from Reykjavik to six European destinations, and will add flights to North America in spring 2020.

Magnusson expects to have six aircraft by summer 2020, and 10 aircraft within three years, which would make it a similar size to his former employer WOW air, which collapsed in late March this year.

Sales start in November and a thousand tickets will be given away to mark the occasion

Reportedly, PLAY claims to have received around $40 million in funding, primarily from overseas investors, including Simon Whitley-Ryan, the grandson of one of the founders of Ryanair.
