12 SEP 2019: Holland America Line’s Westerdam leaked greywater into Glacier Bay during a call a year ago, discharging about 22,500 gallons of untreated water into the bay after a worker opened the wrong valve by mistake.

Greywater runoff usually comes from cleaning or used water from kitchen operations, however it is an offence to discharge anything within the national park.

The cruise line informed state officials after the incident was discovered.

HAL agreed to pay the fine of $17,000 but did not admit to any of the 'factual allegations or legal claims.'

It was also fined $250 by the National Park Service.
