17 OCT 2017: With the recent tragedy happening in Las Vegas, the LGBT community are ready to show support for the city. One Magical Weekend, Aspen Gay Ski Week and Las Vegas Pride are coming together to invite their friends from around the world to join them October 19 to 22, , in downtown Las Vegas as they turn Fremont Street into a display of rainbow love.

Las Vegas Pride president, James Healey said, "Las Vegas Pride will proceed as planned on October 20 through the 22nd. We feel that during these times it’s more important than ever to come together as a community and unite against hate, and promote love, diversity, inclusion and acceptance."

Healey, who works at the New York, New York hotel property in Vegas, was working the night of this tragedy and had a separate ordeal of his own to contend with.

"It was unknown whether or not there was an active shooter inside the New York, New York. Reports coming across the police scanners said there was also a shooter in our hotel," he posted on Facebook.

This year, the three organizations will be celebrating at Plaza Hotel & Casino in exciting Downtown Las Vegas, which has seen a rebirth as a destination in the city. The Plaza opened in 1971 as the world’s largest hotel at the time, and has been an iconic building ever since. While it underwent a major renovation recently, the Plaza still holds true to its glittery roots, as the entrance to the Fremont Street Experience.

Hotel guests in for Pride can begin their festivities at the hotel's Thursday afternoon Happy Hour inside Oscar’s, before heading off to the evening's Pride events. On both Friday and Saturday from 1pm to 5pm, there are pool parties at the Plaza’s newly renovated pool and deck, which is free to attend for hotel guests, and pool-side cabanas are also available for an additional cost.

On Friday October 20th, it’s the Las Vegas Pride Night Parade then a late-night party on the streets of downtown. Finally, on Saturday night, there will be a VIP cocktail reception for Plaza Hotel guests from 7pm -9pm.

For those wanting to discover more Vegas, there's plenty to be found. From the Las Vegas Arts District to Container Park, downtown is a hub of arts and culture – where Las Vegas began. Thrill-seekers might want to try the zipline over Fremont Street, history buffs can check out the Mob Museum, and cocktail aficionados will have a heyday at the variety of bars and saloons in this district that was originally called, “Glitter Gulch.”
