15 AUG 2012: A Vietnamese airline, VietJetAir which held a mid-air bikini show for passengers has been fined. Several women in Hawaiian bikinis sashayed through the cabin on the inaugural VJA flight from Ho Chi Minh City to the coastal holiday destination of Nha Trang.
The passengers seemingly enjoyed the routine, photographing and taking videos of the scantily clad women performing a hip-shaking dance in front of them during the night flight.
Images were posted on the Internet.
The Vietnam Aviation Authority ordered the privately-owned carrier to pay US$938 for violating local aviation regulations.
The “Hawaiian dance” was performed by contestants from a local beauty pageant.
"It was the first flight to a beach town, so we came up with the idea of getting a number of girls in bikinis to dance and make passengers happy to improve our customer service," a VietjetAir official was quoted as saying.
