Dream on

15 FEB 2019: Today’s musical video was suggested by our editor at large who suggests “it captures the zeitgeist here in Canada at the moment”. Given that it was a chilly 14C last evening in Los Angeles you might want to dream someplace slightly warmer – but hey – it’s all relative.

01 FEB 2019: In November of 1996, I was in England with my friend Helen and throughout our days in London and our subsequent stay in the Cotswolds we repeatedly heard the catchy/earwormy/eventually somewhat irritating, refrain, “tell me what you want, what you really really want!” It was playing everywhere and people (including Helen and I) were singing along. The Spice Girls had arrived.

23 JAN 2019: A disgruntled builder allegedly (watch the video) smashed his digger through the glass doors of a new Travelodge in Liverpool after getting into a row with the hotel contractors over pay. Construction workers on site can be heard yelling at the driver. Warning – naughty words can be clearly heard.

Tina Turner

11 JAN 2019: Some years ago I attended a Tina turner concert in Toronto – I just checked the year and was astounded to find it was 2008 – how time flies! In any event I was lucky enough to not just enjoy the concert from a box, but also to be able to get right down to the front of the stage (thank you Lorol) where the incomparable Tina, in high-high-heels and short-short-skirt, strutted her stuff with the energy, enthusiasm and passion of a performer a third her age.

Real or fake footage

11 JAN 2019: It is claimed that the footage in this of an Emirates Airbus A380 departing from Mauritius was taken by a drone. If genuine, it represents a major breach of airline safety. It might seem crazy

07 DEC 2018: This Friday’s music video was inspired by a recent incident. Three women involved in our industry were having a conversation at the next table which we just happened to overhear. Their voices were loud - and okay – we were eavesdropping. These women - on an all expense paid cruise on a high end ship were listening to one of their colleagues bitching loudly about the treatment she had received from a staff member on the phone – she was literally furious at some – from the sound of it, imagined – slight. Her companions listened, commiserated and added their two bits. Need I add, the service on board was exemplary.

Ed Sheeran

30 NOV 2018: Friday’s music video brings back memories of my recent visit to Ireland. It was an amazing experience in that rather than being a visitor, our Irish friends – old and new – and even the local people in restaurants, bars and stores made us welcome and part of a community.
