About Us

A forum for ideas and opinions

TravelindustryToday.com is a Canadian-based electronic journal that delivers in-depth news, information, interviews and opinions to help decision makers, executives and industry professionals, regardless of position, observe and understand where their industry is going, recognize how it is getting there, and to be aware of how those processes can affect their organizations and careers.

With years of knowledge and experience in the industry, our regular writers and columnists, our editorials, and even the image banners that accompany each story, are thought provoking, humorous and irreverent, and always a good read.

Jen Savedra

Jen Savedra has had a long career in the industry and considerable experience in varied aspects of travel and tourism.  Realizing early the increasing role of the internet and electronic communications within the industry, she gained considerable insight into this developing area by partnering with AOL Canada to design, build and operate their first online travel channel in this country.

An accomplished writer and artist, Savedra is dedicated to producing a publication that is not just a forum for news and ideas, but is clean, concise, easy to navigate and fun to read.

“Does this industry really need another electronic newsletter?” asked Savedra, and answered her own question, “Yes, it does, but only if that publication differentiates itself from the pack.  We’re the first one on your screen in the morning, we have a viewpoint, an attitude and we don’t pull any punches.

“Our vision is not just to supply a rehash of media releases and PR pamphlets.  Our job is to be provocative, entertaining, and yes, of course, informative. It’s about ideas and information from and to all sectors of our industry, here in Canada, in the US, and globally.

“If it is pertinent to the travel industry, you’ll read about it in Travel Industry Today.”

Savedra began her career as an artist, and despite her segue into travel, tourism and writing, continues to paint in oils, acrylics and watercolours seldom travelling without a small watercolour box and book.  She has an eclectic style both representational and abstract and has exhibited her work in Toronto, Miami and New York.

Vicki Borenstein

Vicki Borenstein - PUBLISHER

As president of Total Travel Marketing the holding corporation for The Last Minute Club, The Wholesale Travel Group and Go Air Only, Vicki Borenstein is a well known and highly regarded figure in the Canadian travel industry.

Borenstein began her travel career as owner and founder of The Last Minute Club, and later bought The Wholesale Travel Group which was originally founded by Mike Overs of Pizza Pizza.

Go Air Only was developed by Total Travel Marketing in 1997 and was the first 100% online travel brand in Canada.

As the owner of the two largest individually held travel agencies in the country, Borenstein, an acknowledged marketing expert, ran two brands that were each other’s biggest competitors.

Total Travel Marketing and all of its subsidiaries were bought by Airtours Group PLC, a UK public company in May 2000, then rebranded as MyTravel Group PLC in 2002, which merged with Thomas Cook Group PLC in June 2007.

In 2003 Borenstein retired from retail travel to pursue a career in residential real estate and other investment interests.

She acted as an advisor and consultant to TravelindustryToday.com from its inception and agreed, finally, to formally take on the role of publisher.

“It’s easy to come in at this stage when all the hard work has been done,” says Borenstein jokingly.

“With writers and columnists of this calibre, the publisher’s job is the easiest one in the house. I see my role as one of keeping the business aspects and vision of TravelindustryToday.com focused as we move forward.”

With parents who owned a travel agency, Pam Fiamelli literally grew up in the industry and is well versed in all thing "travel." A compulsive proof reader, she has pointed out typos and grammatical errors in publications from all over the world. Writing as Pam Stellini, her column Without Reservations (previously Notes from A Broad) has run in this publication almost since its inception. Her quirky outlook and wry humour defy categorization. Readers have compared her to Erma Bombeck and Art Buchwald with a travel spin - and we're not about to argue.

For the past year Fiamelli has also assumed certain writing and editorial responsibilities at Travel Industry Today, and this year she will continue those duties on a regular basis as Lifestyles Editor. Unfortunately, her regular column will bear the brunt, though she will continue to produce Without Reservations as the muse strikes and time allows.

Fiamelli wrote a community events column for Oakville Today, for three years, and has been published in The Globe and Mail, Reader's Digest and Vancouver Family Magazine and Arts About Town (Oakville) along with editorial work for a national airline and a Destination Marketing Company.

Her career has involved telecommunications, sales and promotions, in fact, Fiamelli worked with the RMR Group as sales and promotion manager for Visit Florida.
