ORLANDO MARKS ANNIVERSARY OF PULSE SHOOTING

13 JUN 2017: Yesterday, a series of events across Orlando marked the one-year anniversary of the tragic Pulse shooting that killed 49 people and left the city and world in shock. Local governments named June 12th “Orlando United Day.”

GAY BRUSSELS

Frederick Boutry loves his job. “I am passionate about changing people’s views of Brussels,” he says. The chargé de mission for the gay market at Visit Brussels, Boutry smiles as he reflects on his first press trip hosting in late 2009. “Many thought Brussels would be boring when they got the invitation,” he says acknowledging that for many, his city lives in the shadow of neighbouring LGBT heavy-hitter destinations like London, Paris and Berlin. “But that is changing.”

EAT, DRINK AND BE MARY
A Gay Guide on Where to Rest and Refuel in Orlando

“Our main goal is for all of our guests to feel comfortable and welcome at our hotel, and that certainly includes our LGBT travelers,” says Ron Reinhold, director of sales and marketing at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld. “Orlando is well known as a family-friendly market, with all sorts of magic to discover and fabulous dining and shopping. As a member of the community myself, I’m proud to say that our hotel team understands well that the term ‘family’ has a much broader and deeper meaning now than ever before. However your family looks and feels, we want you to feel welcome, relaxed and at home.”

MY BIG FAT GAY THEME PARK WEDDING
Tourism Industry Expects Marriage Equality to Boost LGBT Interest in Central Florida

04 JUN 2015: Looking around me, I feel as though I am lunching with three knights of Orlando’s gay round table. Paul Queen, co-founder of the Orlando and Central Florida LGBT Convention and Visitors Bureau, is seated across from me with a warm smile and open body language, likely applying the client-building techniques he has perfected over the years to close deals with meeting planners and tour operators. To my left is Michael Thomas, owner of John Michael Weddings and Special Events, adjusting the tableware at his place, revealing his party-planning instincts. And to my right, Billy Looper, executive director of One Magical Weekend, the annual LGBT celebration at Walt Disney World slides his business card across the table towards me. All three have lots to say and for good reason. There are big doings in 2015.

UPSETTING THE BIG APPLECART

06 JUN 2012: Monday of this week was a very odd day. While Greg Saretsky headed to Toronto to celebrate the launch of WestJet’s New York (LGA) route, Calin Rovinescu was in Calgary to stage AC’s annual shareholders’ showdown.
