02 NOV 2018: The iconic version of this week’s music video is undoubtedly that of Ray Charles from his 1960 album The Genius Hits the Road— but ‘Georgia on My Mind’ – now the official song of the State of Georgia, has been performed by any number of artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Willie Nelson, Louis Armstrong, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones, Coldplay, Oscar Peterson and Gladys Knight. The cover here is a personal favourite by Annie Lennox, from her 2014 album, Nostalgia.

Written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorell in 1956, in 2003 Rolling Stone magazine declared "Georgia On My Mind" to be one of the top 50 greatest songs of all time.

So, for my friends in Georgia - and all our readers - Enjoy!

Georgia on my Mind

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
I said a Georgia, Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
I said now, Georgia, Georgia
No peace I find
It's just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
I said Georgia, Georgia
No peace, I find
It's just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

Songwriters: Hoagy Carmichael / Stuart Gorell
