22 AUG 2017: Skal Toronto got an excellent turnout for their 61st annual golf tournament as over 130 players enjoyed a barbeque lunch before teeing off at the Royal Woodbine Golf Club. Skal is a global organization of tourism professionals that includes all sectors of the industry who meet regularly at local, national and global events to network and discuss common interests.

So, on a generally sunny afternoon last week, Toronto Skalleagues and their guests enjoyed a day of fun and friendly competition, while the planes from neighbouring Pearson International Airport flew overhead seemingly low enough to hit with a high drive.

Golf Chair Kimberly Hartley, who managed to be everywhere all at once, said the tournament (which she has chaired for several years), perfectly reflects the Skål motto of “doing business with friends.”

“These events help members keep in touch and stay on top of the industry,” said Hartley. She also reminded us that proceeds don’t just go support the organization, but are contributed to charitable causes including the Food Bank, plus she added, “it’s a fun time.”

After the tournament, players and guests enjoyed a reception, dinner, various raffle draws and live auctions, followed by prizes awarded in various categories.

Travel Industry sponsored a hole where we had a fun set up asking golfers to pose behind a poster making them look as though they were wearing Augusta green jackets. We then drew a number for the winners who each received a Masters 2017 green golfers cap.
