16 JUN 2017: Effective June 6, bookings for the high-end suites in The Haven on Norwegian Cruise Lines will include an 18 percent gratuity for the dining and beverage packages. This is the only amenity in the Free at Sea package to be affected.

The Free at Sea programme gives guests a choice of up to five different offerings, including:  unlimited open bar,  specialty dining,  WiFi, shore excursion credits and berths for third and fourth passengers in a cabin.

"Our promotions change from time to time..." cruise line representative Vanessa Picariello said in a statement.

"In order to ensure that we can continue to provide our Haven and Suites guests with all five choices, an 18 percent gratuity on the beverage and specialty dining packages will be the responsibility of the guest."

Passengers in The Haven can have to option to not partake in the unlimited dining and beverage packages prior to sailing and save the gratuity fees.

Brand’s short life

Carnival Corporation’s Fathom brand, was launched in April 2016. Sailing on the 700 passenger Adonia, Fathom took guests on week long cruises to the Dominican Republic and Cuba and gave them the opportunity to participate in different impact activities such as creating clean water filters, planting trees, teaching English in the communities and in schools, and helping pour concrete floors in community homes.

While the Adonia will no longer be sailing to the Caribbean under the Fathom brand (the ship is being transferred back to sister line P&O Cruises), the work will continue as the travel deep experience spreads to Carnival’s nine other cruise lines.
