S eaWorld has reached an historic milestone over 31,000 animal rescues in our history. While we wish we didn’t need to rescue any animals, it’s amazing to see that we’ve been able to get many of these animals a second, and sometimes third chance at life. The official total for animal rescues is now: 31,103. That is more than one rescue every day for over 50 years, and more than four rescues each and every day since 2010 alone!

For more than 50 years, our rescue teams have played a vital role in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife in the United States. Many of the animals we rescue have been directly or indirectly affected by human activity. The planet’s oceans are teeming with trash – an estimated 5.25 trillion items that should not be in the water.

“Our teams have witnessed first-hand the devastating effect of plastic pollution and marine debris on the thousands of animals we’ve rescued,” said Joel Manby, CEO SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. “We are committed to educating our millions of park visitors about these issues, and reducing plastic waste in our parks by eliminating plastic shopping bags in our gift shops.”

The focus of World Oceans Day 2017 was on encouraging solutions to plastic pollution and preventing marine litter. Plastic debris is one of the deadliest forms of pollution for the thousands of marine animals that are trapped, injured, or killed by discarded plastics, hooks, and fishing line every year. From ocean clean ups to eliminating the use plastic bags, it is people like you that inspire and educate others to join us in protecting animals and the wild wonders of the world.

Caring for imperiled animals has always been one of our core values. Each year, we provide our dedicated and experienced personnel including animal care specialists and veterinarians towards this mission. This, together with the time, materials and equipment, is valued on average at about $10 million.

We could not be more proud of the animal care staff and rescue teams, as well as all of our Ambassadors, as we achieve this monumental milestone of over 31,000 animal rescues. Thank you for making this world a better place!
